The majority of the time, games having crossplay is a positive thing. Crossplay enables a larger overall player base, allows friends on different platforms to play together, and gives players the option of playing against only those on their same platform or all platforms. But, sadly, in games that are built around precision aiming such as most shooters like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, crossplay can be rough.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

When keyboard and mouse players have to go up against controller users that are benefitted from massive aim assist or when console players feel constantly pressured by the hyper-precision of mouse and keyboard players, that’s when crossplay can be a bit negative if mandatory. Thankfully, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022) gives players the option to turn crossplay off. So, let’s go over how to do it on each platform.

How To Turn Off Crossplay On PC

Sadly, at the moment, there is no option for turning off crossplay on PC. There’s been no statement on the matter either but it’s very likely the option will be added in by Infinity Ward at some point in the near future, given how many other UI issues the game seems to have.

How To Turn Off Crossplay On Playstation

To turn it off on Playstation, one of the more popular platforms for the game, players will need to head into the Options menu and then the Account and Network section. Then, right there at the top should be a crossplay On or Off option for them. Keep in mind that players will need to do this from the main menu or the launcher, as the option won’t be modifiable when already in a lobby, mid-match, or in a tournament.

How To Turn Off Crossplay On Xbox

And finally, there’s Xbox. Now, like PC, there isn’t a way as of yet to turn off crossplay within the in-game menus for Modern Warfare II (2022). But, luckily, fans have figured out a workaround. Funnily enough, this workaround should work for any crossplay multiplayer game on Xbox too, not just MW2. Now, to disable crossplay, Xbox players must:

  1. Go to the Xbox Dashboard.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Go to General.
  4. Then Online Safety and Family.
  5. Then Xbox Privacy.
  6. After that go to View Details and Customise.
  7. And then Communication and Multiplayer.

After all those steps players should see a You Can Join Cross-Network Play option that has a dropdown with either Allow or Block. Set this to Block and save Settings. Restart the console and then launch Modern Warfare II, players should see a pop-up that asks them to provide their account pin to continue, do this, and they should be able to start Matchmaking.

Now MW2 players should only get into lobbies full of other Xbox-only players! The discussion between turning crossplay on or off in any game is one that’s usually just dependent on player preference, but games should basically always at least include the option so that players can make that choice themselves.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
