Developer Infinity Ward releases changes and updates that are being made to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 prior to its October 28th release. Presumably, Infinity Ward is paying close attention to Modern Warfare 2 players that had early access to the game and were able to play the game, test its performance, and share their thoughts. This is good news for players as, hopefully, it means that the game will run smoothly and be improved upon in various ways when it launches.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Though the base game clocks in at just 35 GB, which is quite small for a Call of Duty title, it looks like Modern Warfare 2‘s update size adds another 40 GB to the storage requirement. Of course, fans and players expect this from a Call of Duty game, and there are sure to be more updates and add-ons as the game launches and gets into its first month of post launch changes.

A majority of the changes in this update for the game focuses on fixing issues that players are having in the game. All the patch notes (which are listed in their entirety at the bottom of this article) are for the multiplayer mode of the game. Things like improved enemy visibility, point-of-view specifics for low and high-zoom optics, refined player movement, and many others make their way into the patch notes. With all the different multiplayer game modes in Modern Warfare 2, these improvements and fixes will be quite welcome for players as the game launches.

Modern Warfare 2‘s success on Steam during the early access has been a light of hope for PC players, and even console players are excited that the game will be quite optimized as it launches. Fast-paced, competitive, FPS games are always in need of optimized performance, as it can be the difference between players increasing or decreasing in rank. And of course, a happy player base always bodes well for a game and its development/production team.

Though Modern Warfare 2 has an exciting single-player campaign, it is the multiplayer modes that really draw players to it. Like other multiplayer Call of Duty games, players hope to be able to jump straight into matchmaking with friends and start playing multiple matches per gaming session.

Infinity Ward is paying attention to players and using its early access testing to work hard on updates and changes to make the full launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as smooth and seamless as possible. Full patch notes below:

Enemy Visibility

  • We have added diamond icons above the heads of enemies. This should make it easier for players to clearly identify opponents in the game.
  • Additionally, we’ve continued to tweak lighting and contrast for improved enemy visibility.

Audio

  • We’ve shortened the overall range of footstep audio which will allow enemy players to get closer to targets before they are able to detect footsteps. We have also continued to tweak teammate footstep audio, which will now be quieter following feedback from the Beta.
  • The in-world activation sound effect volume range for the Dead Silence field upgrade has been drastically decreased.

Third Person

  • Following feedback from Beta, aiming down sights will now stay in third person POV for low-zoom optics. Only high-zoom optics (beginning with the ACOG and higher) and special optics such as Hybrids and Thermals will revert to first person POV. We believe this will enhance the third person experience while keeping the gameplay balanced. The feedback on this mode has been very positive, and we will continue to explore its use as a modifier.

Weapons

  • We have continued to tweak weapons across the game following both feedback from Beta players and game data. Players can expect more specifics on weapon tuning as we continue to support post-launch.

UI

  • We have been working hard on numerous updates to our UI that make accessing and customizing your loadout more seamless. We’ve made improvements to navigation of menus and will continue to optimize our UX.

Movement

  • Slide, ledge hang, and dive have been further refined. We’ve also addressed some movement exploits following Beta.

Matchmaking

  • We have implemented some changes that aim to reduce lobby disbandment between matches. We look forward to testing this at a large scale and getting feedback.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
