Greavard is a new addition to the Pokedex in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet that has some potential that fans think isn’t being utilized properly.

As fans discuss the new dog creature found in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Greavard, they’ve noticed a big missed opportunity with its ability. Greavard is a new Ghost-type Pokemon that was just revealed in time for Halloween.

Players were given a ton of information about Greavard through the official English site for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. While this ranges from details such as a Pokedex entry preview and details as to how it interacts with the world around it as well as its own trainer, it also reveals the creature’s ability. Fans can expect that most, if not every, Greavard they catch will have Pickup – an ability that lets the critter grab items it finds on the ground as presents for its owner throughout their journey together as long as it’s not already holding something.

However, the website also states that Greavard’s bite is enough to shatter bones. Some fans are confused and amused at this fact, considering the Pokemon has Pickup as an ability, and not Strong Jaw. Some fans have taken to making memes about the situation, including Reddit user ionblazer.

Strong Jaw is an ability that boosts the power of moves like Bite. Every move that deals with Pokemon biting their opponents get a boost from it, which makes sense as to why Greavard should have it. Fans in the comments of ionblazer’s post have been discussing wether or not Strong Jaw will feature as a hidden ability for the Ghost-type Pokemon or not.

It’s a common trend that when Pokemon with Pickup evolve, they lose the ability and gain something else. This can be seen with creatures like Meowth and Aipom who evolve into Persian and Ambipom. This has many prospective players hoping that Greavard evolves and becomes a bigger creature with Strong Jaw.

However, it’s not known just yet if the new dog critter will be able to evolve, and hidden abilities may be harder to obtain in these games than they ever have before due to the fact that it’s rumored that breeding isn’t in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Knowing what ability Greavard has for certain is important to those who like to plan their teams before playing, but it seems those hoping that Strong Jaw comes into play later may need to wait until November 18 to know if they’re getting the powerful biting Ghost-type dog they want.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are set to release November 18th for Switch.
