The new Silent Night, Deadly Night Collection is bringing three less-seen and little-known sequels to the holiday horror classic to Blu-Ray just in time for Christmas, courtesy of Lionsgate.

The original film in the horror franchise, Silent Night, Deadly Night quickly established itself a prime spot in the developing Christmas slasher genre in 1984, featuring a murderous Santa Claus on a bloody rampage. Scarred by his parent’s Christmas Eve murder, a young man, Billy, puts on a Santa suit and begins killing. The original film was a box office flop but gained further audiences in the past four decades via home video and streaming. It was followed up by a sequel titled Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2, where Billy’s younger brother, Ricky, takes on the role of killer Santa.

According to Bloody Disgusting, while the first two films have been available on Blu-Ray for a while, the later sequels that are part of the Silent Night, Deadly Night Collection are new additions. This new edition includes Silent Night, Deadly Night 3: Better Watch Out (1989), Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation (1990), and Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker (1991). The three later sequels went straight to video when they were released and are lesser-known installments in the franchise.

The Silent Night, Deadly Night Collection also features previously unseen features, including audio commentary, interviews with producers, directors, and cast, and a discussion of the film series’ impact on the horror genre. “In Better Watch Out, it’s a very bloody Christmas after Ricky Caldwell, the notorious ‘Killer Santa Claus,’ awakens from a six-year coma with one thing on his mind: murder,” reads the official synopsis for the Blu-Ray collection. “In Initiation, a reporter’s investigation into a mysterious death leads her into the clutches of a cult that’s chosen her as its new queen, and The Toy Maker stars entertainment legend, Mickey Rooney, as a toy maker whose creations display some very human – and deadly – tendencies.”

While these sequels are lesser know than the first two films, they are no doubt great additions to the campy holiday horror world that the original set up, with plenty of good bloodshed and scares to be had. The original Silent Night, Deadly Night quickly joined the developing canon of Holiday horror films that began with 1974’s Black Christmas and continues through recent projects like this December’s upcoming Violent Night, all of which establish a firm counter to the jollier expectations of the season.

The Silent Night, Deadly Night collection is due out on December 13th, 2022.
