Innersloth releases a Halloween update for Among Us, adding spooky cosmetic elements, bug fixes, and improvements to the social deduction game.

Indie studio Innersloth has released a Halloween update for their most well-known game: Among Us. Version 2022.10.18 adds spooky cosmetic elements, bug fixes, and various improvements to the Among Us experience.

While not as widely played as it was during the COVID-19 pandemic, Among Us continues to be a popular game night pick and a way to make online friends around the world. In a Visionaries podcast episode, Innersloth co-founder Marcus Bromander admitted that Among Us was abandoned prior to its viral success. Yet, with the implementation of social distancing and quarantine, gamers and non-gamers alike found enjoyment in the space-themed social deduction game. Even after its heyday, Innersloth keeps rolling out big and small changes in Among Us for eager fans.

Innersloth Community Manager Chris Dorsey explained the various Halloween updates in a dev log. Spooky decorations now adorn MIRA HQ and The Skeld. Chewie, a mini crewmate and one of the Among Us cosmetic pets, will match the player’s selected crewmate color. Cosmicubes containing assorted Halloween-themed items, such as witch hats and werewolf ears, are available in the store until October 31. Dorsey also briefly mentioned an upcoming “Hide n Seek release” that is currently being playtested.

Further updates address existing game issues and aim to improve user experience. While previously the map showed the location of an emergency meeting, the update allows players to see their last location at the time the meeting was called instead. The Among Us team also altered the user interface to increase visibility of Kick and Ban buttons in the lobby and during emergency meetings. Gamers can now select the “Manage Account” link with a controller.

Players returning to Among Us may be surprised by the number of changes implemented since the game peaked in popularity. One shock may be that users are required to create an Among Us account in order to play. The added security measure was introduced in an effort to increase accountability and prevent hacking, cheating, and harassment. In this update, temporary accounts on Android and iOS will be able to randomize their names.

For hardcore Among Us fans, the updates are welcome additions to their gaming experience. Among Us continues to grow and expand to different platforms, showcasing its versatility. In the upcoming version, screen shake will be an option for consoles. To commemorate the Among Us VR launch, Innersloth will gift players a free VR Visor cosmetic during the month of November.

Among Us is available on PC, Android, iOS, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
