Insomniac Games reconfirms that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to release in 2023 as fans share worries about it getting delayed.

Insomniac Games reiterates that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is still slated for 2023. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was unveiled at the PlayStation Showcase presentation last year, although not much is known about the game as of today.

Still, it’s probably one of the most-anticipated games in Sony’s catalog of first-party titles. The original game was a massive success, as Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales sold a combined total of over 33 million copies as of May 15, 2022. Marvel’s Spider-Man came out on PS4 over four years ago, but the developer has released three pieces of DLC, a standalone expansion, and a remaster within this time frame. Insomniac Games now reaffirms the release year for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

This information comes via the official Twitter account of Insomniac Games. The developer posted a clip from Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, probably to promote its release on PC next month. Some users replied to this tweet with concerns regarding the lack of gameplay footage, and one shared their worries about it getting delayed. Insomniac Games mentioned that the team is making good progress on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and the game is still scheduled to release in 2023. At the end, it stated that showing off games in presentations takes time, effort, and coordination.

Fans will probably not see any gameplay from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 until the next major PlayStation Showcase event. Sony is yet to host one in 2022, so players have been left without any information on some first-party games for over a year now. A recent rumor suggested that Sony may cancel its PlayStation Showcase plans due to the ongoing investigation into Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard King. It stated that a supposed PlayStation event will likely feature exclusive titles that may strengthen Microsoft’s case.

Sony can also show a trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at a State of Play presentation, but it’s not as significant as a full showcase event. Although, the previous two State of Plays have featured some exciting announcements such as Tekken 8, Rise of the Ronin, and a remake of Resident Evil 4.

Furthermore, they included new trailers for games like God of War Ragnarok and Final Fantasy 16, so a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gameplay trailer at a future State of Play is not completely out of the question. Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 received their own State of Plays, so Sony can also look into hosting one for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 if a PlayStation Showcase is not on the cards.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to release in 2023 for PS5.
