Some Overwatch 2 players discover a new bug that not only prevents the match from ending, but traps players within their spawn rooms with no escape.

A new Overwatch 2 bug traps both teams in their spawn with an overtime timer that never seems to end. While this latest bug is a major annoyance for players who experience it, it’s another in an already long list of issues. Overwatch 2 originally launched at the start of October and with the game moving to free to play, there was no shortage of players attempting to log in. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned as the servers for Overwatch 2 suffered from errors, long queues, and even multiple DDoS attacks.

Blizzard eventually corrected the login issues and fans were able to experience the new additions to the game alongside all of the returning content. However, players continued to experience a range of odd issues including visual issues resulting in a boat moving backwards Watchpoint: Gibraltar map, a glitch that gave Ana 5 million damage mitigation points from using her Nano Boost ability on a D.Va, to a bug that not only wiped out their gold coins when buying a Hammond bundle, but brought them into a negative balance.

While many of those don’t have much of an impact on gameplay, the latest Overwatch 2 bug being reported by fans is one that can be particularly nasty. New posts on the Overwatch and Overwatch 2 subReddits highlights a bug that can seem to happen as matches are about to end. In a post from the_pride_of_VPI, an Escort match had just ended, with the attacking team claiming victory as the payload reached the end of the road. However, instead of the game ending, the attacking players were sent back to the spawn room with the door closed and the game timer changed to Unspecified with a 5:59 timer listed. The game ultimately lasted over an hour when the Overwatch 2 ended it for taking too long.

Another post from FRIENSHIP_MASTER had a similar experience where the enemy team was trapped within their spawn and unable to leave. Unlike the other game, the timer switched to Overtime, but the bar never fully drained, trapping players for nearly an hour before Overwatch 2 again shut things down for going on too long. Hilariously enough, a player on the other team during that match left a comment providing more details, even confirming that a player who had left, managed to rejoin after playing two normal matches.

As of right now, there doesn’t appear to be a solution outside of simply quitting the match. While Overwatch 2 certainly has plenty of cool little touches and details, there are still a lot of things that players are hoping to see improved over time. Players have already expressed concerns over the Battle Pass grind and lackluster legendary cosmetic skins for numerous characters like Junker Queen, but as a live service title, it’s likely that Blizzard will continue to tweak things over time.

Overwatch 2 is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
