Blizzard confirms the start date for the Overwatch 2 Halloween event, revealing exactly when players will be able to jump into the festivities.

Blizzard has confirmed that the Overwatch 2 Halloween event will start on Tuesday, October 25. Overwatch 2 launched in early access earlier this month, and traditionally, live service games tend to avoid seasonal events in the first few weeks of release. However, Overwatch 2 is a special case in that it has replaced the existing Overwatch client, and so it’s not starting from scratch like other live service titles on the market. Perhaps this is why fans are being treated to a Halloween event this year despite the recent launch.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Overwatch has a long history of Halloween events, with Halloween Terror taking place consistently every year of the hero shooter’s existence. 2022 will be no exception to the rule, though it’s likely that this year’s Halloween Terror event will look a bit different from previous years. Besides the opportunity for new Halloween skins to be included in the Overwatch 2 Halloween Terror 2022 event, fans will also be treated to a new version of a popular game mode.

One of the big draws of the Overwatch Halloween Terror event every year is the limited-time Junkenstein’s Revenge mode. One of the rare PvE experiences in Overwatch, Junkenstein’s Revenge is a wave-based game mode where players choose from select Overwatch heroes to protect a door from enemies. Junkenstein’s Revenge: Wrath of the Bride is the new version of the mode debuting this year, but details on what exactly will make it different from the original version of Junkenstein’s Revenge are unavailable at this time. It’s also unclear if the original Junkenstein’s Revenge will be returning or not, but fans should find out more information in the days ahead.

When is the Overwatch 2 Halloween Event?

In the days leading up to Overwatch seasonal events, Blizzard often takes the time to reveal some of the new skins fans can look forward to, and it’s likely that the same will happen for this year’s Halloween Terror. The downside is that these skins will only be available to those that purchase them with Overwatch Coins, the game’s premium currency. Loot boxes are a thing of the past, and so that means free seasonal skins are a thing of the past as well.

October 25 is going to be a big day for Overwatch fans in general. Besides the return of Halloween Terror, October 25 is also the day that Damage hero Bastion returns to the game and Torbjorn is added back to Competitive. Needless to say, there should be a lot for Overwatch 2 fans to look forward to next week.

Overwatch 2 is out now in early access for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
