Mario is one of the most iconic video game characters, and he’s soon set to jump into his cinematic world. Visually, The Super Mario Bros. Movie looks identical to the game world, which has evolved throughout the years with better graphics. Illumination and Nintendo have created something exciting in bringing the Mario franchise to life.

One thing that many love about the Mariofranchise is the abundance of colorful and interesting characters that have been introduced throughout the years. Each game, whether it be Mario Kart, or an adventure, features fun characters that fans would love to see in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

8/8 Wario

What is a hero without a warped version to become arch-rival? Wario is the anti-Mario, who loves gold, garlic, and greed. Wario features in many of the Mario games, from Mario Kart and Mario Party, and plenty of sports games in the Mario franchise.

Wario’s yellow overalls would look great in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, as would his proud fat gut. Wario is a funny character in the Mario universe, as funny as he is gross. There could be plenty of fun afoot for Wario’s meddling in Mario’s life.

7/8 Waluigi

Wario’s partner, and the lanky rival to Luigi, Waluigi has made strides as long as his legs in the Mario community. The character is rather popular for both his appearance and his quirky personality. He’s somewhat creepy and often celebrates with a red rose, but his appearances have been reduced to mere Mario spin-off parties and sports games.

Waluigi’s inclusion in The Super Mario Bros. Movie would open the film to a larger world, and show the vastness of fun characters that the franchise harbors. Wario and Waluigi are also a great duo and can be more than just the anti-Luigi and anti-Mario if they are given screen time to be devious in.

6/8 Princess Daisy

Princess Daisy breaks the stigma behind what a princess does. She’s a tomboy who loves sports and fighting, proving that looks can’t be based on appearances, especially in her floral and regal attire. Daisy is their love interest to Luigi, and it would be a lot of fun to see the two interact and cause a frantic Luigi to fluster.

Princess Daisy is entirely energetic and brings the charisma that one would expect from the Mario universe. Her inclusion in the film could be a great way to pay homage to the party games, as she could feature in some sports ware or even in a go-kart.

5/8 Professor E. Gadd

This elderly scientist originated from Luigi’s Mansion franchise. He’s a great ally to Luigi and is the founder of Gadd Science. His speech is bizarre and gibberish, and he could be the entry point for the Mario universe to get spooky, and potentially lead Luigi into his spin-off movie.

Professor E. Gadd created the Poltergust 3000, which is a vacuum cleaner that sucks up ghosts. The character is a great inventor, if not a little wild. Luigi’s Mansion could very well see a cinematic version if this character is introduced.

4/8 Rosalina

Rosalina opens the Mario world into an entire galaxy. She was first introduced in Super Mario Galaxy and has since been a fan-favorite character for the Mario spin-off games. She acts as the guardian of space and is also the adoptive mother to the adorable Lumas.

Rosalina has great power and watches over the Mushroom World from her Comet Observatory. She loves telling stories to her Lumas, and these adorable star creatures are not far off from what one would expect of Minions, which Illumination even created.

3/8 Cappy

One of the more recent characters to be introduced to the Mario series was that Cappy. Cappy was introduced in Super Mario Odyssey and became a partner to Mario in his quest to rescue Princess Peach and Tiara. As a team, Cappy and Mario are a duo to be reckoned with, even in water levels.

Cappy can turn into Mario’s hat, and be thrown to help Mario become objects and beings. Mario has become dinosaurs, taxis, and frogs thanks to Cappy, all with his iconic mustache. It would be fun to see Cappy and his world in a cinematic fashion.

2/8 Yoshi

Everyone knows of the Mushroom Kingdom, but Yoshi’s Island is also worthy of its recognition. Yoshi’s Island is home to the Yoshi, a fun and colorful dinosaur with a range of different colors. The primary Yoshi is green and acts as a sidekick to Mario and Luigi.

Yoshi doesn’t mind when his friends ride on his shell, as long as they don’t mind when he ensnares a goomba with his tongue and swallows them whole. Yoshi has a cute voice, so it would be interesting to see if the Super Mario Bros. Movie gives him one.

1/8 Koopalings

The Koopalings, or sometimes referred to as “Koopa Kids” love one thing, and that’s being mean. They are the seven nieces, nephews, and minions of Bowser. The Koopalings have featured in many of the Mario games, in which Mario ventures off to save Princess Peach from Bowser and his eyebrows. All seven of these characters have their boss fight and unique personalities.

The seven characters include Larry Koopa, Morton Koopa Jr, Wendy O. Koopa, Iggy Koopa, Roy Koopa, Lemmy Koopa, and Ludwig von Koopa. All of these Koopalings have a great personalities that could be explored in The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s sequels as new villains.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is scheduled to be released on April 7, 2023.
