Shin Megami Tensei 5 does not have traditional equipment or upgrade paths akin to other RPGs. One of its most unique features is the Miracle system. Players can go on quests to find these little demons called Mimans for the item dealer Gustave, to earn Glory. This currency is separate from cash, Macca, and can be spent to upgrade the hero in several ways.

Taking on Demon’s resistance abilities will go a long way to improving Nahobino’s chances of survival in battles. It even allows the protagonist to defend against Dark powers which in the early stages can cause a lot of problems for Nahobino.

10/12 Divine Garrison

  • Glory Cost: 10
  • Ability: Increases Demon Stock by 1.
  • Category: Awakening
  • When It Can Be Unlocked: Destroy the Abscess in Mita

Divine Garrison is a Miracle that raises the count of how many demons players can keep in stock. The first rank raises this number by one, and it only increases from there. It’s a good idea to unlock as many slots as possible whenever more upgrades pop up.

This will allow players to capture more demons while exploring. This is a tip that can be taken for the whole series. The more demons one befriends, the better.

9/12 Deathly Aura

  • Glory Cost: 30
  • Ability: Demons that are cornered will beg for their lives.
  • Category: Supremacy
  • When It Can Be Unlocked: Destroy the Shinbashi Abscess.

Deathly Aura will help players get demons easier in the field. Talking to demons is not that hard to figure out. Sometimes the word choices may not be that clear, but practice makes perfect. Deathly Aura makes it so demons approach players instead.

They might get intimated in battle if players kill off one or more of their comrades. There are usually some methods like Deathly Aura in the series, but this Miracle might be the best implementation yet.

Macca is a precious commodity in the game. Of its many uses, the Demon Compendium is the best thing to put Macca into. It is very expensive to re-summon demons though which is why this Miracle should be purchased as soon as possible.

7/12 Unforgotten Memories

  • Glory Cost: 65
  • Ability: New fused demons will gain EXP based on the demon’s already fused.
  • Category: Doctrine
  • When It Can Be Unlocked: Destroy the Abscess in Shinbanshi.

Fusion is what this series is best known for. Pokemon might be the world’s more favorited monster-catching RPG, but there is no way to fuse critters, unlike Shin Megami Tensei. Unforgotten Memories make it so that newly fused demons will gain experience immediately after being created.

This can lead to unlocking new skills early on in their development. As a side note, Pokemon definitely should look into fusing their iconic monsters. They made a sentient key ring for crying out loud so they are running out of ideas.

6/12 Demon Proficiency

  • Glory Cost: 50
  • Ability: Increases demon’s skill slots by 1.
  • Category: Awakening
  • When It Can Be Unlocked: Destroy the Abscess in Mita.

Demon Proficiency increases the number of skill slots available to demons. To get ahead in battle, it’s a good idea for players to diversify their three partner demons in battle. That means demons should be loaded with skills from physical attacks to elemental spells to healing magic.

The more powers the team has, the greater the chance players can trigger an enemy demon’s weakness. Healing spells are just good for survival like in any RPG.

Players could go into battle with many strategies. The hero could be infused purely with buffing and healing magic so that the demon comrades can focus on attacking as well. Maybe some players prefer the opposite approach. More skill slots equal more ways to approach combat. That’s the basic gist of this tip.

4/12 Art Of Essences

  • Glory Cost: 30
  • Ability: Allows an additional essence skill
  • Category: Doctrine
  • When It Can Be Unlocked: Destroy the Mita Abscess.

The main character cannot get skills by leveling up demons. They instead gain skills through Essences. This process has the main character, or demon, inherit inherent skills from others without the need to lose that demon unlike how fusion works.

Art of Essences then allows players to choose from more skills when they look at demons. This Miracle has more ranks to gain as well so keep an eye on it.

3/12 Fell Swoop

  • Glory Cost: 30
  • Ability: Hitting enemy weaknesses will slightly increase the protagonist’s Magatsuhi Gauge.
  • Category: Supremacy
  • When It Can Be Unlocked: Destroy the Abscess in Shiba.

The Magatsuhi Gauge is like the Limit Break gauge in Final Fantasy games. By fighting demons, players will raise this bar. Once filled, they can unleash a special ability one time. Many Miracles can help this gauge rise faster.

Fell Swoop is SMT 5‘s best Miracle for increasing the Magatsuhi Gauge. Whenever a player inflicts a weak or critical attack, the gauge will increase. Hitting weak points should be no problem if gamers are playing Shin Megami Tensei 5 right.

2/12 Hand Of God

  • Glory Cost: 5
  • Ability: A chance to acquire an extra relic.
  • Category: Doctrine
  • When It Can Be Unlocked: When first arriving in Mita.

Hand of God allows players the opportunity of getting an extra relic whenever one is discovered. Relics are seemingly normal items by today’s standards like soda. The shopkeeper in the game, Gustave, will offer players Macca for relics.

So, for example, if the player purchases this Miracle and then uses a soda machine, there is a chance two cans will pop out instead of two. It’s an easy way to earn more Macca. That would be a good Miracle to have for everyday life and it’s one of the bestMiracles in SMT 5.

1/12 Empowering Cheer

  • Glory Cost: 5
  • Ability: Half of HP and MP are recovered when leveling up.
  • Category: Awakening
  • When It Can Be Unlocked: When arriving in Mita.

Empowering Cheer is a simple and cheap Miracle that every player should purchase. Having it will recover half of the HP and MP lost from battle when the main character or their demons level up. Sometimes HP and MP can get scarce in a long dungeon or even on the world map.

The more ways players have to recover stats, the better. Some games have characters fully recover everything after leveling up, which is always nice to see. That’s not the case with Shin Megami Tensei 5, but this Miracle is better than nothing.

Shin Megami Tensei 5 was released on November 11, 2021, and is available on Switch exclusively.
